A Little Bit About Me

I am a graduate of The State University of New York at Oswego. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and am certified to teach grades Pre-K through Six. I’m currently a Kindergarten teach and am working on my Master of Science degree in Literacy Education Birth through Grade Six.

Outside of school I love to spend time with my family. I especially enjoy playing outside with my young son Ethan, who has recently discovered a love of the outdoors. Between my son and my students I am very busy, but I do still find time to read, work out, and visit with friends all of which I enjoy immensely.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe the ultimate goal of all schools and educators should be to facilitate authentic learning. Authentic learning involves knowledge, reflection, practice, collaboration, leadership, and most importantly social justice. Only when students feel safe and that they are part of a learning community can authentic learning take place. This environment is created through the practices of a teacher who has a working knowledge of not only curriculum, but also his or her students’ strengths, weaknesses, and learning styles. This knowledge comes from careful reflection on day to day interactions with students and personal attitudes.

I also recognize that continuous communication between home and school is crucial to student success. Through open communication teachers and caregivers are better equipped to support and meet the individual needs of the children.

Purpose

This portfolio is meant to be a purposeful and selective collection of my work which shows my ability to reflect, as well as and my progress and achievement over time.
